In recent months Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts has made a name for herself as a fashionista - giving red-headed girls a style icon to look up to.

But it seems another flame-haired beauty may be about to steal her crown.

Karen Gillan burst into the nation's consciousness as Amy Pond in Doctor Who this month, with her kissogram character's short skirts raising eyebrows.

But off-screen the former model has already proved her fashion nous, with a series of well-thought out outfits.

On a promotional tour to promote the new series of Doctor Who in the U.S., where it is screened on BBC America, the 22-year-old has delighted fans in a glamorous maxi-dress, edgy jumpsuit and folk-style mini.

Today she stepped out in Los Angeles in a pair of super high laced platforms, teamed with a sparkly mini dress and blazer.

Meanwhile Nicola mixed High Street with high fashion today as she stepped out in a Top Shop sweater, emblazoned with a horse motif, and Chanel handbag.

The 24-year-old protected her eyes from the bright sunshine in London's Primrose Hill with a pair of sunglasses, while styling her hair in a chic waved bob.

While on her 'gap year' from Girls Aloud Nicola has become increasingly involved in the world of fashion.

She is regularly spotted taking notes in the front row of shows in London and Paris and puts her research to good use, supporting British designers such as Vivienne Westwood.

But the Liverpool-born singer has denied stories she is hoping to break into the fashion world as a designer, saying her Dainty Doll make-up and role as a safe tan ambassador range keep her more than busy.

But with Karen making waves in the fashion world, Nicola may find she's no longer the most fashionable red-head around.
