Salma Hayek lets her £3,750 show-stealing boots do the talking

Fundraisers: Salma Hayek and her husband French businessman Francois-Henri Pinault arrive at the Christie's Green Auction in New York

Salma Hayek wore a pair of boots that certainly put her ahead of the fashion pack at a fundraising event in New York.

The stunning actress wore an unusual pair of Latin American-inspired Balenciaga platform open-toe mid-calf boots, which stood out by a mile amongst the formulaic pumps and strappy heels worn by her contemporaries.

Salma, 43, kept the rest of her outfit simple with a plain black t-shirt, a puffed knee-length skirt and matching black clutch.

The unusual looking boots were certainly not for the fainthearted, and the £3,750 price tag even less so.

But although a brave fashion choice, they proved less than flattering, as the calf-length creation made her look somewhat stumpy.

The Mexican actress attended the Christie's Green Auction in the Big Apple with her husband, French businessman Francois-Henri Pinault.

They married last Valentine's Day after splitting in July 2008 and have a two-year-old daughter named Valentina.

Salma and her husband were joined by guests including Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr and the current Miss Universe Stefania Fernandez

Kerr, 27, wore an elegant white Grecian-style floor-length dress while Fernandez wore a mini-dress made up of separate segments and strappy silver heels.

Also present was Dutch model Doutzen Kroes who wore a snug-fitting green dress with side sections cut out.

Actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Alec Baldwin and Chevy Chase were also on hand to lend their support to the event, which was held on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

The auction raised $2million for environmental agencies around the globe and some of the celebrities involved kindly offered their time to bidders in order to boost the fund bank.

Amongst others, X-Files actor David Duchovny offered a chance to have lunch on the set of Californication, Hugh Jackman allowed for one lucky person to spend the day with him and designer Vera Wang auctioned a lunch and a shopping spree with her.

A golfing day with former U.s. president Bill Clinton raised a staggering $80,000.
Proceeds from the live auction will be divided among the non-profit environmental groups Natural Resources Defence Council, the Central Park Conservancy, Oceana and Conservation International.
