And it turns out she wasn't exaggerating.
The I Kissed A Girl singer posted a picture on Twitter as proof of his manic
obsession with wedding planning.
The mildly amusing photograph shows the 34-year-old all dressed up in a beaded puff-sleeve lace dress with a matching veil.
But giving his history as a lothario, virginal white might not be quite the right shade on him.
Russell proposed to Katy in India on New Year's Eve after just three and a half months of dating but the couple have yet to set a date because Katy is currently working on her third album - a follow-up to her 2008 hit One Of The Boys.
The 25-year-old singer is taking a laid-back approach to their big day saying: 'I'm preparing a little bit here and there.'
Russell, however, has come out with all guns blazing. 'He's like a freak, man. You should see - he's always, like, buying bride magazines,' Katy says.
'Every time we go out for breakfast he's like, "Can we just stop and get a bride magazine?"'
'He wants everything monogrammed,' she adds.
