Desperate Housewives snub Nicolette Sheridan as they back show's producer Marc Cherry

Snubbed: Nicollette Sheridan (far left) and her former Desperate Housewives castmates who have refused to back her claims she was assaulted by the show's producer Marc Cherry

They might be desperate but they are no fools - as Nicolette Sheridan has found out to her detriment.

Having spent five years on Desperate Housewives, the actress may have hoped for some support from her former castmates after she filed a lawsuit against producer Marc Cherry for assault.

But after playing the ladies' rival on the show, life is imitating art quite cruelly for Sheridan, after Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross took Cherry's side.

Sheridan, 46, filed a lawsuit for £13million against the show's producer earlier this month claiming that Cherry, 48, 'took her aside and forcefully hit her across her face' for querying a script.

She then claimed that Cherry went to her trailer to 'beg forgiveness' after she reported him to executives at ABC TV.

British-born Sheridan then said that four months after the alleged slapping incident in February 2009, she was told her character was being written out and her contract terminated.

Sheridan also said that Cherry was abusive to other cast members and writers, especially actress Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan Mayer.

After a clash with Teri, Cherry is alleged to have said: 'I hope Teri Hatcher gets hit by a car and dies'.

But today, Teri, 45, Eva, 35, Felicity, 47, and Marcia, 48, joined together to issue a statement showing their support for Cherry.

It read: 'It would be irresponsible of us to let the public believe that being a part of this show from its inception has been anything but a blessing. We have no first-hand knowledge of what Nicollette may or may not have experienced, but we would never characterize our set as a hostile environment.

'It is, in fact, the opposite. The friendships and support that Marc Cherry, the cast, the crew and the producers have shared for the past six years have made this a wonderful job that we are grateful for every day.'

The statement also addressed Nicollette’s mention of Teri Hatcher in her lawsuit 'unfortunate and inappropriate'.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight after the statement was issued, Teri added: 'While my adoration and respect for the classic and dynamic chemistry of the characters of Susan and Edie is indelible, I'm honoured to stand with Eva, Felicity and Marcia as a group and clarify that our set environment is nothing less than an amazingly positive experience.

'I have never felt discriminated against. In fact, I have felt heard and respected by Marc and other executives in regards to both my professional and personal needs.'

Nicollette's lawsuit also said: 'The decision to kill off Sheridan's character demonstrates that Cherry and ABC intended to and did retaliate against Sheridan for her complaints about Cherry.

It notes that although some of the male characters were killed off, 'none of the female characters had ever before been killed off or written out of the show'.
