Will Simon Cowell let Mel B spice up the X Factor?

By Sara Nathan

The comments and putdowns can be devastating – and that’s just the ones between the judges.

So the prospect of adding the famously outspoken Mel B to the likes of Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh on the X Factor is a prospect fans of the show might relish.

The arrival of the 34-year-old former Spice Girl might not, however, delight pregnant Dannii Minogue, whose future as a judge would appear to be in doubt.

Spicing it up: Mel B (left) is being lined up to replace the pregnant Dannii Minogue

Mel B recently enjoyed a night out in Los Angeles with the ITV talent show’s executives, who were there for talks about the next series with Cowell.

An X Factor source told the Mail: ‘The top level executives at the production company, TalkbackThames, took Mel B out for the evening and it was certainly to gauge her thoughts on the show – and to see if she would be right for a role.’

But the source added: ‘Mel is extremely temperamental – she won’t listen to anyone, so there could be fireworks on the panel.’

Strong bond: The inclusion of Cheryl Cole (second left) on the judging panel was a masterstroke by Simon Cowell (left). Will Mel B have the same effect?

Cowell, 50, and the X Factor producers are believed to be in a quandary over Miss Minogue because she has said she wants to give birth to her first child, due in July, in Australia.

However, the auditions for the X Factor are due to start in June – and will span the country – so it may prove difficult for her to join the judges.

The insider added: ‘Dannii had a great series last year and she looked fantastic, but it may be a case of offering her another role on the show.’
