Christina Aguilera copies Lady GaGa as she dons PVC outfit in new video

Eighteen months ago, Christina Aguilera dismissed suggestions she was copying Lady GaGa, icily declaring: 'I don’t know if it is a man or a woman.'

But as the 29-year-old prepares to release her first studio album four years, it looks like Aguilera may be feeling the pressure to mount a stunning comeback.

In a clip of the singer's new video for her comeback single Not Myself Tonight, Aguilera opts for a PVC bra and pencil skirt - identical to an outfit worn by GaGa in London last August.

As well as showing off an edgier, sexy style, Aguilera's new album Bionic is more futuristic, dance-orientated sound, a complete change in musical direction for the 29-year-old singer.

During Aguilera's four year absence from the music scene to focus on motherhood - albeit a brief return to release a one-off new single Keeps Getting Better and a Greatest Hits album in 2008 - GaGa has leaped from obscurity to become of the biggest female acts in the world today.

With both artists known for their platinum blonde hair, risqué outfits and dramatic make-up, comparisons would be inevitable.

But critics accuse Aguilera of ditching her previous retro style of dressing in a bid to outdo eccentric GaGa, 24.

Even R&B singer Akon has suggested Aguilera is feeling 'insecure' about GaGa's huge fame.

He told Vibe magazine: 'I think sometimes she gets insecure because of all of the success Gaga has had, not realising that she was already successful before Gaga came out.

'Soon as Gaga came out, everything switched up. Christina stepped out of her own shell to become something different.'

Unsurprisingly, Aguilera isn't impressed with the comparison: 'It just comes with the territory. That, in particular, is not even worth wasting the breath to comment on.

'I've been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for myself.'

When Aguilera first leaped to fame, she was compared to Britney Spears, but soon stood out from the Toxic singer with her more powerful vocal range.

As a married mother to two-year-old Max, Aguilera believes she is better equipped to deal with accusations of copying other stars.

She said: '(If I was younger) I would have engaged, been a little upset, but there's a bigger picture out there. I've got my son, my family, my work.'

While not signalling out GaGa for praise, Aguilera said: 'No rip-offs, we're all inspired by different things. I was inspired by artists that came before me.

'You know what I love about the new breed of newcomers is that they're risk takers. They're doing things that aren't so safe. I always had the guts and passion to do things like that.'

Similar hairstyles: Although GaGa is very experimental with her hair, she often opts for long blonde hair and a blunt fringe, just as Aguilera has sported

Aguilera was first accused of copying GaGa in the promotional material for her Keeps Gettin' Better: A Decade Of Hits album - which went on sale just two weeks after GaGa's debut The Fame was released.

In response, Aguilera said in November 2008: 'You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure.'

While Aguilera's last studio album Back To Basics sold 4million copies worldwide, GaGa has dwarfed that figure by shifting 10million copies of her debut The Fame.

Meanwhile, Aguilera says fans should expect an even sexier image than usual with her new album Bionic, claiming becoming a mother has made her 'more sexual'.

Describing her home's Naked Sundays tradition, she said: 'I think it's important that he sees mommy not be ashamed of her sexuality.

'Max will be growing up in a house where it's just the norm... It's only weird when you shame it.'
