The £6m ad that's got Britain talking - and sobbing

By Chris Beanland

Life-cycle: The £6m ad for John Lewis shows infancy, a birthday party, a clumsy kiss in a university corridor, marriage, parenthood and the path into old age

Sometimes we forget just how short and precious our time on this planet really is. It's for this reason that John Lewis's new television ad seems to have struck an uncharacteristic chord.

You won't find many people admitting to crying over the usual flood of formulaic adverts on our screens - yet this 'moving' ad has got Britain talking - and sobbing into their breakfast bowls.

At 91 seconds long, and costing £6million, the ad has been watched an incredible 100,000 times in the single week that it has been available on YouTube.

The premise is simple - the life cycle of a woman from birth to old-age. But like all classic ads - and this is surely destined to become one - this simplicity is where its strength lies.

The ad shows infancy, a girl's birthday party, a clumsy kiss in a university corridor, marriage, pregnancy, parenthood and the path into old age.

It is similar to the stunning 'life-cycle' sequence in the animated Pixar film Up, which moved many to tears.

Hit: At 91 seconds long, and costing £6million, the ad has been watched an incredible 100,000 times in the single week that it has been available on YouTube

Marketing technique: The prop department only used products available to buy in store at John Lewis

Its score is a reinterpretation of Billy Joel's Always A Woman, performed by Fyfe Dangerfield, of the band Guillemots.

Dangerfield now plans to release the track on May 3 and it could be destined for the top of the charts.

Although some viewers may find it too sentimental, it's actually a pretty modern picture of Britain. There are matriarchal figures, multi-ethnic relationships and children among the expensive patio sets.

Its message is 'treasure life and your family'. But as one wag pointed out: why is the entire advert - which must span 70 years - set in a single era?

Treasure life: The entire advert which must span 70 years is however set in a single era

Production: The advert was made using nine actresses to play the woman from infancy to old age

Who's steamed up the Tardis? The Doctor shares a passionate kiss with companion Amy

By Paul Revoir

Passionate: The Doctor is caught off-guard as his companion Amy Pond grabs him for a kiss

Her revealing outfits have left fans in no doubt she is the most sexiest Doctor Who companion in the history of the hit science fiction drama.

*** Scroll down to watch video ***

Now Amy Pond is to appear in one of the most risque scenes the BBC show has ever seen as she forces herself on the Time Lord in her bedroom.

Viewers will be shocked to see Karen Gillan's character kissing the doctor played by Matt Smith as he is backed up against the side of his Tardis.

She even tells the 907-year-old Time Lord she doesn't mind if it is a just a one-night-stand - despite the fact he has already spurned her advances on a bed.

Wearing the trademark mini skirt, Amy even tries to undress the Doctor who briefly reciprocates when she kisses him before pushing her away in tonight's episode.

Quite how the more traditional Doctor Who fans will react to the scenes, which will air at tea-time, remains to be seen.

In a first for the show, Amy even jokes about how long it is since the Time Lord last had sex, makes suggestive innuendoes and provocatively lies down on the bed in front of him.

Heated: The Doctor responds and kisses Amy back but then pushes her away

It is unclear if she is acting out of character as part of a wider plot. When Billie Piper's assistant Rose Tyler lunged at the Doctor and kissed him in 2006 it was revealed that her body had been taken over by villain Cassandra.

The heated moment occurs when the attractive red-head takes the Doctor back home - when the Tardis touches down once again on the night before her wedding.

She then produces the wedding ring that she planned to don before she fled with the Time Lord.

And it becomes clear that Amy - who had been working as a kissogram - wants to do more than just talk as she begins flirting with him.

Scared: The Doctor looks horrified as Amy forces herself on him

Amy declares that fighting off the evil Weeping Angels, which feature in tonight's episode, has made her think about her life.

The flirty companion tells the show's hero that she has been thinking: 'About what I want. About who I want. You know what I mean.'

After he fails to get the hint, she then tells him 'Doctor in a word. In one very simple word even you can understand...' before she jumps on top of him on the bed.
He yells at her: 'You're getting married in the morning.'

Come here, sexy: Amy makes a pass at the Doctor after they land in her bedroom after fighting off the evil Weeping Angels

Geroff me! The Doctor spurns Amy and runs off the bed to the Tardis

Now in full seductress mode, Amy replies: 'Well, the morning is a long time away. What are you going to do about that?'

The stunned Doctor makes his escape to the other side of the room where the Tardis is parked, telling her: 'Amy listen to me I am 907 years old do you understand what that means?'

Amy: 'It's been a while.'

When he tells her the relationship could never work, she replies: 'You are sweet doctor, but I really wasn't suggesting anything quite so long term.' She then give him passionate kiss.

No escape: Amy is determined to get her Time Lord in bed

Then as if he has come to some revelation he says: 'I don't know why, I have no idea, but quite possibly the single most important thing in the history of the universe is that I get you sorted out right now?'

In a clear innuendo she replies: 'That's what I have been trying to tell you.'

The scenes are far cry from the more staid and stuffy days of William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton. But it is unclear how the modern family audience of the show will respond.

Actress Miss Gillan, 22, told Graham Norton about the scenes when she was interviewed for Monday's edition of his BBC1 chatshow. She told him that her long term boyfriend was 'cool' about the kissing.

You're getting married! The Doctor tries to push Amy away on the eve of her wedding day

She also said she was amused about being called the sexiest Doctor Who assistant ever.

Miss Gillan drew attention recently after she was spotted changing her outfit three times in a day.

Last week's episode of Doctor Who sparked outrage among 5,000 fervent fans - after ruining the cliffhanger ending with a trailer for a TV talent show.

The Corporation was forced to apologise to viewers after an animated cartoon of Graham Norton and an on-screen caption for entertainment show Over The Rainbow popped up during the gripping climax of the sci-fi television hit.

All change for Doctor Who assistant as Karen Gillan wears three outfits in one day

By Richard Simpson

Dressed down: At the supermarket... and then shopping in Chelsea

Her on-screen companion changes his appearance once every few years.

But Karen Gillan, 22, who plays new sidekick Amy Pond in Doctor Who, managed it three times in one day.

She was seen outside a supermarket near her London home on Wednesday in skinny black jeans, brown boots and a grey off-the-shoulder jumper.

Caught a little off guard, the 6ft former model's face was bare of make-up, revealing a tiny outbreak of spots on her usually blemish-free skin.

Two hours later, shopping in Chelsea, the jumper had been replaced by a
cropped mini trench jacket over a peasant blouse, although her Prada sunglasses and classic Chanel quilted bag remained firmly in place.

A few hours later it was another change - the former model had changed into a thigh-skimming Phillip Lim dress - plus that bag again - for a recording of the Graham Norton Show alongside Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez.

She was photographed leaving the show at 10pm with her boyfriend, 24-year-old photographer Patrick Green, at her side.

Dressed up: After her TV show appearance and, right, wearing 'that' mini-skirt

On the show, which will air on Monday night on BBC1, Miss Gillan talked of her new-found fame and sex symbol status, and also of kissing screen Doctor, Matt Smith.

She revealed there is 'proper full-on snogging' to come with the Doctor on the show.

Commenting on being called the sexiest Doctor Who assistant of all time, Miss Gillan said: 'Yeah - what's all that about? Maybe because I played a kiss-o-gram in the first episode.'

She was referring to her first appearance on the cult show, for which she wore a mini-skirt, enraging fans who accused producers of 'shamelessly sexing up' the long-running family programme.

On the Graham Norton show, Miss Gillan admitted there will be a full on kissing scene with the doctor in an upcoming episode and said that her boyfriend was 'cool' about it.

But Miss Gillan's own look was given a resounding thumbs-up by fashion expert Natalie Theo yesterday.

She told the Mail: 'It’s a girl’s prerogative to change her mind and her outfit as many times in a day as she sees fit. Just look at the likes of Victoria Beckham.

'And if you’re prone to a bit of time travel then wardrobe switches should be as easy as applying a new shade of lipstick.

'She’s done a laid back sport-luxe look with her grey off-the shoulder loose jumper teamed with ultra skinny jeans and her Ray Ban aviators. And her lace-up boots are so next season.

'She’s then morphed into a hippy rock chick look by layering a must-have cropped mini-trench jacket over a peasant blouse.

'By night she’s turned into a swan with the shape of the season in the Phillip Lim asymmetric dress teamed with cute Marc by Marc Jacobs pumps.'

Why breathing a word of the plot will cost the Sex And The City girls £1.6m

By Alison Boshoff

Hush hush: Sarah Jessica Parker, co-producer of Sex And The City 2, ordered her cast and crew to sign a confidentiality agreement

They're back. More airbrushed, better lit, and more painstakingly styled than ever. Sex And The City 2 is nearly upon us - it premieres at the end of May - and fans of the original series are agog to find out what's in store for Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte.

Everyone is wondering how well they have got on behind the scenes. Relations between the ladies have been famously fractious - Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha, refused to sign up unless she was better paid last time.

This time around everyone's claiming they had a ball making the movie. Samantha says in the film: 'We made a deal ages ago: men, babies . . . it doesn't matter. We're soulmates.' And that's what the PRs would have you believe is true in real life.

But there are indications to the contrary - starting with the fact that they stayed in different hotels when they were filming.

And why did none of them turn up to the launch of the fashion collection Sarah Jessica Parker fronted this year? Could all three of the others have been busy that night? Or perhaps they are not truly 'friends' off-screen?

This time SJP, a highly successful actress who has a reputation for knowing exactly what she wants, has exerted her control to an even greater extent than she did on the last movie.

She is the co-producer of the film as well as its star. This has left Kim Cattrall out in the cold. The chemistry seems to boil down to three girls on one side, and Kim on the other.

One major source of conflict was the confidentiality agreements that SJP ordered the entire cast and crew to sign. Under its terms, if they are proven to have leaked a story about the movie, they are liable to pay up to $2.5million (£1.6million) in damages. Cattrall nearly came a cropper after she was photographed holding a script, with some of the dialogue visible.

Best friends? Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon in the next film of Sex And The City

There was a terrible fuss - it was put up on the internet and Cattrall received a warning telling her to be more careful. She sighed: 'I thought: "You have got to be kidding! This isn't state secrets, it's the f****** script for a movie!" It's crazy.

You really have to be careful because I've signed my life away to say I won't tell.

It gets to the point where you're terrified to carry your script around in case someone catches a glimpse of it.'

And the reason for the anxiety is that SJP seems to be convinced that the only way the sequel will do well is if people don't know what is going to happen to the 'girls'. They are all very keen to strike gold again - especially SJP, after her last romantic comedy movie bombed at the box office.

She's almost certainly wrong about why people go to see SATC, though. The first movie took $400 million two years ago, though it was critically panned as nothing much more than three TV episodes stuck together.

To the surprise and delight of the studios, it was an enormous hit. It showed that films featuring women over 40 could actually make money, so Warners decided to rush out the sequel - a script was commissioned within weeks of the first movie's release.

Early signs are that it will be another huge hit - ticket sales are brisk, with many groups of women planning 'party screenings' complete with cocktails.

There is considerable pressure now on the actresses to agree to begin shooting a third and final movie - before they look too old for their adventures in romance and fashion in new York to appear completely unlikely.

The preference would be for a start towards the end of this year, although it will be a push as writer Michael Patrick King doesn't have a script ready yet.

But one source connected with the film used the words 'more haggard' and 'even older' to describe fears over how the stars now look, and the belief certainly seems to be the sooner, the better.

Some people think that they are way past it already. Cattrall is the oldest - a beautifully preserved 53. SJP and Kristin Davis are 45, and Cynthia Nixon is 43.

Love life: Kim Cattrall's Samantha possibly has two romances, one with a toyboy and the other an older man

There have been many unkind remarks about an early publicity poster, featuring SJP in a white dress. 'She looks like a reanimated corpse,' wrote one. Another poster, which shows all four girls in a bar, was labelled 'grannies' night out'.

SJP, recently voted 'the world's unsexiest woman', is naturally alarmed. Apparently, she frets about seeming 'haggard' on screen - because she is so slender-she thinks she's aged more noticeably than her co-stars, and she's thinner than she's ever been.

It's said that she was spotted looking tearful at a salon in new York when they were doing lighting and make-up tests for the film. Apparently she was horrified by the way she had been lit in the film did You Hear About the Morgans?

And by the time they came to film SATC2, she had twin baby girls, presented to her by a surrogate mother, to cope with too. Marion and Tabitha were born in June last year and she started filming in September.

Caring for twins and a ten-year-old is enough to make anyone look baggy under the eyes. no wonder they have all been happy that the movie has taken infinite care over lighting and airbrushing.

The rumour is that more than $1million has been spent giving them electronic tweaks on screen and has been a greater priority this time than the outfits.

So what can we expect? the new movie opens two years after the last. Carrie is living in New York with Big and writing her fourth book.

Writer Michael Patrick King said: 'the question is, what is Carrie Bradshaw like as a wife? What's that about for Carrie, who is the eternal single girl, the rebel, the individual.'

Carrie and Big don't have a baby - they spend the film wrestling with the question of whether they are ready for one or not. Actor Chris Noth, who plays Big, added: 'No matter how long you have known someone, marriage changes things. It's a learning process for Carrie and Big.'

In a recently released trailer, we see Big flirting with a colleague, played by Penelope Cruz, and Carrie telling him: 'We are getting a bit too Mr and Mrs Married. We need to work on the sparkle.'

Samantha is in New York, running her PR firm, Miranda is working for her law firm, and Charlotte and husband Harry have another baby. There will be a big wedding.

Samantha has been pictured in a wedding dress, but that seems to be part of a dream sequence. The nuptials are between Carrie's friend Stanford Blatch and his boyfriend Anthony Marentino.

Sources indicate that at the wedding SJ P wears a tuxedo, and that Liza Minnelli performs at the Jewish ceremony with a highlight of the film being Minnelli, at 64, putting on a high-kicking routine which includes a reprise of Beyonce's Single Ladies. 'It's a wonderful number and I just got my new knee, so everything moves,' she said

Meanwhile, Charlotte and Harry have marital problems. She has Lily and a newborn, and suspects Harry of cheating. She's also said to be surprised to feel sexually attracted to their gorgeous blonde Irish nanny, played by Alice Eve.

Cynthia Nixon said: 'Miranda is still married to Steve. She only has one child. She's living in Brooklyn, still employing Magda, still working as a lawyer, still having brunch with the ladies.' But she's finding it increasingly hard to have so little time with her family, and reports suggest she quits her job in an effort to redress her work/life balance.

Samantha has two romances, one with a toyboy played by male model Noah Mills. When that doesn't work out she falls heavily for an older man, acted by Max Ryan, who is 43 and portrays a European architect named Rikard.

He is said to be the reason why the ladies go to Abu Dhabi on an all-expenses-paid holiday, although other reports say Samantha takes them because her ex-boyfriend Smith Jerrod, played by Jason Lewis, has shot a film in the kingdom.

Michael Patrick King said: 'I thought, OK it's a depression. What do people need? And I thought extravagance. Let's put them on a big vacation. the idea of Samantha Jones, sexually liberated beyond anyone's expectation, going to the Middle East amused me. And I started building the story around that.'

The girls ride camels and go to nightclubs. And the major plot point happens when Carrie runs into her former lover Aiden in a market. 'We bump into each other halfway around the world?' Carrie muses. 'That means something.'

Samantha is said to fall quite seriously for her older beau. There are rumours that she will fall pregnant (she is said to be taking hormone pills in a bid to appear more youthful - might they wreak a miraculous plot twist with a baby for the oldest of the gang?).

SJP said that this film 'is a sort of antidote to the first one, which had a lot of sadness in it. this movie is more like a caper, a romp.'

She added that while in Morocco the four of them 'lived together, worked together for almost eight weeks solid - breakfast, lunch and dinner together every single night.'

Which is odd, because reports insist that Kristin and Kim stayed at the Amanjena Hotel in Marrakech, SJP was at the Mamounia and Cynthia Nixon at the Es Saadi. They were spotted dining separately. But relations do seem to have improved since the state of war which existed at the end of the TV series. The fact that the first film was such a hit smoothed tensions.

Cattrall still wishes that she was paid equally, but Kristin Davis has been a peacemaker between her and SJP. Cynthia Nixon does not want to get involved at all.

It seems that SJP and Cattrall have decided to make peace because they both know how tough it is to survive in the movies beyond 40, and that it would be foolish to sabotage this rich opportunity.

'People don't want to believe that we get on,' said Cattrall. 'They have too much invested in the idea of two strong, successful women fighting with each other. It makes for juicy gossip. The truth of us being friends and getting along and happily doing our jobs together is nowhere near as newsworthy.'

She added: 'I think Sarah is fantastic. She is a born leader and she guides the crew and the cast in such a strong but gentle way. She and I are sick of the rumours. It's exhausting talking about it, and a real bore.'

'F*** off back to England,' Brian McFadden tells British comedienne in foul-mouthed rant on Australia's Got Talent

By Richard Shears

Outburst: Brian McFadden on the panel of Australia's Got Talent

A British-born comedienne was stunned when Australia's Got Talent judge Brian McFadden told her to 'f*** off back to England'.

Anne Ferguson-Howe, a 50-year-old who now lives Down Under, had hoped to impress the judges, who included pregnant Dannii Minogue, with her comedy routine.

However, she failed to raise much of a laugh and the audition in Brisbane descended into a bitter row with two members of the panel.

Channel 7 deleted the scenes from the final cut but not before the family show's reputation had been dragged through the mud.

Mrs Ferguson-Howe, a mother of two, claimed the row ignited when the third judge, Kyle Sandilands, made a comment about her weight.

She retaliated with a reference to the Australian Big Brother host's radio show, which prompted McFadden to jump in, saying 'Get off, get off'.

Mrs Ferguson-Howe told the Sydney Daily Telegraph: 'I then said to Brian "Listen pal, if you're going to dish it out, you've got to learn to take it back."

'Brian pulled his mike off, climbed on stage and very cleverly, without anyone hearing, said: "Why don't you just f*** off back to England?" '

Panel: The 50-year-old's jokes were judged by McFadden, Dannii Minogue and Kyle Sandilands

Calling the episode 'horrific', Mrs Ferguson-Howe said that if she had been an overweight 20-year-old girl with low self-esteem, 'I think I would have gone home and shot myself'.

Interviewed later on current affairs programme Today Tonight, McFadden said: 'The problem I had with her today was, which she doesn't seem to remember, was that we have got kids in our audience and then she started to curse and use bad language.

'I didn't want this woman standing on stage screaming profanities when there are children in the audience.'

He was not going to apologise for his actions, because he believed he was in the right.

He added: 'As I was walking out, she came over, kept going and that's when I gave my little blast. I've got no problem - I'd say it to her again if she ever did that again in front of an audience full of kids.'

Unimpressed: Brian told the comedienne to 'get off' after she started using bad language

McFadden at the MTV Classic: The Launch event in Melbourne yesterday

Sydney's Channel 7 network admitted the exchange had taken place but said they had decided to delete it before the show was screened.

A spokesperson said: 'The exchange was unacceptable and didn't fit with the vibe of the show, so it was deleted.'

Mrs Ferguson-Howe added that if she ever saw McFadden again she would 'whack him' or 'spit on him'

It was a reference to Sandilands' use of a lie detector on a teenage rape victim that sparked off the vicious exchange.

Upset by the negative reaction to her act, Mrs Ferguson-Howe admits to saying to Sandilands: 'It's easy for you to sit there and have a cheap laugh. When was the last time you had a chat about rape?"'

'After I made that comment to Kyle,' she told the paper, 'everybody went mental'.

This is the latest scandal for McFadden, who has been embroiled in a bitter argument with ex-wife Kerry Katona for the past two weeks.

After calling Katona a 'pig-faced mole' as he hit back against her claims that he was a bad father to their daughters Lilly-Sue and Molly, McFadden accused the former singer of living 'in a fantasy world'.

Dispute: Mrs Ferguson-Howe talks to Sandilands and Minogue after her audition

Responding to Katona's claims that he only calls their two daughters five times a year, McFadden replied: 'Kerry lives in a fantasy world. It’s all absolute nonsense.

'She was making it up as she went along and didn’t care how hurtful she was being.

‘I don’t know why she said I only ring the girls five times a year. It can be difficult because of the time difference - when the girls wake up it’s the middle of the night here, but I ring my girls twice a week.’

Leona Lewis gives Simon Cowell's 'lovely' fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy her seal of approval

By Lizzie Smith

Happy: Leona Lewis, posing in a stunning series of pictures, is pleased her mentor Simon Cowell is getting married and calls his fiancée 'lovely'

Leona Lewis has given her mentor Simon Cowell's fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy her backing - describing the make-up artist as 'lovely'.

The singer, currently based near the couple in Los Angeles, says 'She has the Leona Lewis seal of approval'.

X Factor supremo Cowell, 50, proposed to Mezhgan on Valentine's Day and gave her a £250,000 diamond engagement ring.

Lovely: Leona is a fan of Simon Cowell's girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy

But while Leona is pleased for the couple, she has no plans to follow them down the aisle.

The 25-year-old, who has been dating childhood sweetheart Lou Al-Chamaa for seven-and-a-half years, says she is happy with things as they are.

'I don’t want to speak for him, but you just kind of make it work,' she told this month's InStyle magazine, as she posed for a stunning set of pictures. 'That’s partnership.

'I always try to maintain my private life. My private life is the most precious thing to me.

'I’m passionate about my music but...'

Leona also rubbished claims she had slimmed down from a size 14 to a 10.
'For a start, I’ve never been a 14,' she said. 'But I have probably lost a little.

'I watch what I eat and eat really healthily most of the time, but other times, I’ll just eat what I want.

'I don’t drink. I haven’t for years. It tastes like hairspray to me – I can have a great time without alcohol.

'I don’t need that to get me up on the dancefloor – I’m there already. I’ll sometimes have a little Red Bull. That’s my little buzz.'

In great shape: Leona shows off her toned figure in a shoot for InStyle magazine - but says she doesn't diet

The full interview is in this month's InStyle magazine, on sale now

But while she may not have dieted, preparing for her first tour has helped Leona get in shape.

The tour is based on the Eighties fantasy adventure film Labyrinth starring David Bowie.

'There’ll be jumping around, dance numbers, big ballads, an acoustic set.

'A real musical journey. Expect everything. Just very weird and wonderful and atmospheric.'

And the Happy singer, once dubbed 'too nice', laughs off any suggestion that fame is changing her.

'I think that once people get to know me, they see that I’m a feisty person,' she said.

'I’m very fiery and very passionate.'

Leona, a staunch vegetarian, says she would never compromise her beliefs.

'I really believe in standing up for what you believe in,' she said. 'So many people in entertainment are just out for the money and that’s not what I’m about.

'I’d never take money for something that goes against my beliefs.'

Leona starts her first UK arena tour on May 28. Her second album Echo is out now.

Heavy night was it, Helen? Coronation Street actress Flanagan isn't looking so Rosie on a visit to Granada Studios

By Daily Mail Reporter

Heavy night? Helen Flanagan looks a little rough round the edges as she arrives at Granada Studios in Manchester
Helen, who is dating Wigan Athletic striker Scott Sinclair, got out of her car with her hair looking awry and appearing tired.

She often makes an effort to look her best, whether on a night out or going about her daily business.

But Helen Flanagan obviously couldn't be bothered to scrub up before she left her home en route to work on Coronation Street today.

The 20-year-old looked a little rough around the edges when she arrived at Granada Studios in Manchester to film scenes for the ITV1 soap

It seemed as though she had forgotten to brush her hair, and it looked lank and scruffy - the back in particular appearing to have had no attention at all.

Which is surprising considering the rest of her get up.

Bit of a mess: The actress' hair looked awry, although she was wearing a smart ensemble

The actress, who plays Rosie Webster in the soap, wore a cropped cream cardigan over a white T-shirt with a heart logo on the front, a pair of tight-fitting dark denim jeans and a towering pair of snakeskin heels.

Her low-rise jeans also revealed a tattoo on her back that simply read 'Strength'.

She completed the outfit with a quilted black leather handbag.

Inked: Helen's low slung jeans revealed a tattoo on her lower back that simply read 'Strength'

Helen recently spoke about her burgeoning relationship with her 21-year-old boyfriend, who she started dating months after her split with ex Daniel Scott.

She told Fabulous magazine: 'I was single for [Helen pauses for ages to think] about four months, but it seemed like forever.

'I'll say that I'm very happy, but I find it cringeworthy reading about other peoples' relationships in interviews. I talked about my previous relationship, but what I have with Scott is something I think is really nice and lovely so I don't want to share it with anybody.'

Best looking soap star? The 20-year-old has been nominated in the Sexiest Female category at the British Soap Awards next month

That's better: A more glamorous Flanagan at a Macmillan Cancer Support charity event in Manchester earlier this month

The actress also spoke about her joy at being nominated for the Sexiest Female award at the British Soap Awards, to be held next month.

She said: 'It's flattering to be nominated, but if I win I'll be so embarrassed! Rosie's really sexy, whereas I'm a bit more reserved, so I see the nomination as more for her than me!'

In the soap, Helen's character Rosie is set to become embroiled in a love triangle when she agrees to go on a date with butcher Graeme Proctor.

Graeme Proctor is about to find himself the centre of a love triangle in Corrie - with stunners Tina McIntyre and Rosie Webster.

The ex-cellmate of David Platt, played by Craig Gazey, finds himself torn between Tina and Rosie.

It begins when he lends Tina (played by Michelle Keegan) a shoulder to cry on when she starts starving herself because she's still grieving for her father Joe.

Meanwhile Rosie finally agrees for Graeme to take her out on a date, but he stands her up deciding that Tina needs him more.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli lead the celebrity Lakers fans at playoff game

By Sarah Bull

Basketball fans: Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli at the Los Angeles Lakers v. Oklahoma City Thunder game

It seems like Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli's on-off relationship is most definitely back on.

The pair were spotted front row at a basketball game in Los Angeles last night as they watched the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The couple were just two of the many celebrities who turned up to see the second game of the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the 2010 NBA Playoffs.

In love: Bar gazes at her boyfriend lovingly between shots

Dressed casually in a khaki top over a lacy white vest teamed with jeans, Bar couldn't keep the smile off her face as she took her front row seat with her Hollywood boyfriend.

And while Leonardo, who wore a navy shirt, jeans and a UCLA cap, seemed intent on concentrating on the game, he also took the time to chat to his beautiful companion between shots.

Intense: Lakers fan Leonardo watched the match closely, while Bar looked as though she was thoroughly enjoying herself

Crunch time: The pair concentrate for one of the last shots of the game

Bar also put rumours she is engaged to Leonardo to rest with a bare ring finger.
The story started after Bar was photographed wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring earlier this year.

But she said recently: 'No, there wasn't (a proposal) - let me explain: these rings, which are beautiful and made by a friend of mine, won't fit any other finger except this one.

'Yeah, what can I do? I'm 24 and there's still time. I'm in no hurry. I'm happy with where I am.'

Smart sports fans: Sylvester Stallone and Eddie Murphy at the game

Duck! Dustin Hoffman watches in horror as a rogue basketball heads for him

Any ordinary sports fan who attended the game last night must have been stunned at the amount of celebrity guests who also showed their faces.

Sylvester Stallone seemed to have fully recovered after breaking his neck while filming his new movie The Expendables, and wore a smart brown striped suit and tie for the match.

He was joined by fellow actor Eddie Murphy, who was also smartly attired in a black suit with blue striped shirt and tie.

Lifelong fan: Jack Nicholson stands up at one point in the game

Enthusiastic: David Arquette and Seal (with son Henry) were very excitable at the match

But it was actors David Arquette and Jack Nicholson, along with singer Seal, who seemed most into the game.

While David made himself red in the face cheering for the Lakers, Jack stood up and pointed to voice his opinions on the game.

The Departed star Jack has always been a huge basketball fan and is a lifelong follower of the Lakers, according to former American National Basketball Association player Pat Riley.

In-depth chat: Will Ferrell and actress Dyan Cannon talk before the start of the game

All American boy: Ryan Seacrest watches the game from the sidelines

He said: 'Jack has been a good friend of mine for years, and it's borne out of basketball more than anything else. He's simply a fanatic and has been ever since I started my career with the Lakers in 1970.

'He's a real fan. He's not one of these actors that all of a sudden get front row seats and then they're gone. He's for real. He cares.'

The game was won by the Lakers with 111 points, to Oklahoma City's 87 points.

Christina Aguilera is back to her Dirrty best in sexy new video

Sexy in red: Christina Aguilera poses in a skimpy underwear set in front of a fireplace

She's most famous for shocking the world with chaps and sexy dancing in her Dirrty video.

But Christina Aguilera is showing no sign of toning things down, as the promo for her new video Not Myself Tonight shows the singer in a variety of skimpy underwear sets performing what appears to be an extremely sexy dance routine.

While the video for the single is not released until the end of the month, Christina is aiming to tease fans with tantalising glimpses of the naughty footage.

Revealing: The singer wears a chain outfit with pointed pasties and ball gag

The 29-year-old singer dons a red bra and knickers set with a long necklace as she poses provocatively in front of a fireplace, before wearing an outfit made entirely made of chains - with just pointed pasties to maintain her decency.

She also appears to have a ball gag in her mouth in the clearly S&M inspired video.

In another shot, Christina wears her hair tied back in a long ponytail as she wears a revealing cut-out swimsuit while bending her body into sexy poses

Profile: The cutout swimsuit showed off Christina's incredible figure

The 11-second teaser trailer was revealed to fans ahead of the April 30 release of the video.

In another glimpse in the preview, Christina is seen reclining on a chair in the red underwear while a shirtless man seductively leans over her.

Not Myself Tonight is the comeback single for Christina, who has had a four year absence from the music scene to focus on motherhood.

Sensual: In the red underwear, Christina reclines on a chair with a man above her

Seductive: Christina runs her hands over her slim body

The track is taken from the singer's fourth studio album Bionic, which marks a departure from the pop style that made her famous into an edgier, more dance-orientated style.

Talking to U.S. radio DJ Ryan Seacrest earlier this month about the inspiration behind the new track, Christina said: 'Since my last record I’ve become a wife and a new mum, and I’ve changed a lot.

Fierce: The singer wears sparkly red lipstick and huge fake eyelashes for the video

'I actually grew a lot while filming my new movie Burlesque. I was finished on my record and I put it on hold so I could go film the movie, and by the time I was finished with the movie I had more things to say and more stories to write about and that’s how Not Myself Tonight, the first single, kind of got birthed.

'It was just exactly what I was feeling. I’d grown and changed so much, learning so much on the film about myself and my craft and the craft of acting that it just came full circle for me.'
