The X Factor show goes on without Cheryl Cole as Nicole Scherzinger provides the glamour

By Mail Online Reporter

Glamour puss: Nicole Scherzinger, who was wearing a Victoria Beckham dress, is a guest judge on X Factor while Dannii Minogue is on maternity leave

As the final round of X Factor auditions kicked off today, the show went on without Cheryl Cole, who has been hospitalised with malaria.

Nicole Scherzinger, who has been drafted in as a guest judge while Dannii Minogue is on maternity leave, arrived in Manchester looking every inch the glamour puss.

Wearing a figure-hugging Victoria Beckham dress, Scherzinger stopped to sign autographs for fans who clamoured for a glimpse of the Pussycat Doll.

Scherzinger, who will appear alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh on the judging panel for the auditions, has been lined up as a judge on X Factor U.S., according to reports.

The U.S. version is due to start in 2011, but so far, only Cowell has been confirmed for the judging panel.

A source told Radar Online that the Pussycat Doll will have a chance to impress Cowell on the UK show and get the inside story on the U.S. version at the same time.

Scherzinger recently won Dancing With the Stars in the U.S.

There were renewed fears for the health of Cole as it was revealed last night that the singer, who has been in hospital for five days, is suffering from 'fluid on the lungs'.

The update on her condition was inadvertently revealed by her close friend, dancer Derek Hough.

The American - who travelled with her to Tanzania, where she picked up the potentially fatal tropical disease - has been visiting Mrs Cole regularly since she fell ill.

On Wednesday, he was overheard discussing Mrs Cole's plight by another hospital visitor, who said afterwards: ‘I’ve seen Cheryl’s mum and Derek in there. They stayed overnight last night. I overheard Derek on his phone saying she's got fluid on her lungs.’

A statement on X Factor's official Twitter account said earlier this week: 'The X Factor Manchester auditions will go ahead as scheduled, but Cheryl is unfortunately not able to attend. Get well soon Cheryl! x.'
