Ahoy! It's a big-budget wedding on the good ship Simon Cowell

By James Tapper

Smitten: Simon Cowell and fiancee Mezghan Hussainy

He is hardly a man known for his modesty, and now Simon Cowell wants to get married in the Caribbean – on a yacht he will name after himself.

Ignoring nautical superstition that renaming a vessel is bad luck, the X Factor mogul intends to buy a luxury boat for his marriage to Hollywood make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy and call it The Simon Cowell.

A source said: ‘Simon sees Barbados as his home from home. It would be such a great place to get married, and the plan is to do it at sea. The idea is to pick up all the guests in Barbados and then sail to St Barts and get married there.

‘Then they’d all sail back to Barbados for a huge party. It would just be close friends and family on the yacht. Simon has been saying he’d name it after himself.’

But the idea of marrying in the Caribbean may meet some resistance from his mother Julie, who is keen for the wedding to take place in East Sussex, where Simon grew up.

Mrs Cowell, 84, has her heart set on St Margaret’s Church in Rottingdean, near Brighton, whose priest, Father Martin Morgan, was a guest at Cowell’s lavish 50th birthday party last year.

But Mezhgan’s family are based in Los Angeles, and a Caribbean wedding would be more convenient for them.

Cowell proposed to 36-year-old Afghan-born Mezhgan – pronounced ‘mish-gone’ – on Valentine’s Day and gave her a £250,000 diamond ring.

In an interview with Mail on Sunday columnist Piers Morgan earlier this month, Cowell said: ‘I’m smitten with Mezhgan, I think she’s the one. She’s very special.’

He also hinted that he would like to have children.
