She's one of the Caribbean's most famous female exports and Rihanna has decided to pay homage to her West Indian roots in her new video.

The promo for the 21-year-old's new single Rude Boy is just as racy as her previous efforts, but this time the singer took inspiration from her homeland.

In one shot from the video she is seen wearing a revealing gold net outfit that barely covers her modesty, topped off with a leopard print hat.

And, in another, she sits atop a model of a zebra in a black and white all-in-one body suit matching the zebra's colouring.

Although the video is not due to debut until later this week, these preview shots are a clear indication of the direction Rihanna is going in.

Rihanna recently confirmed the inspiration behind the video: 'A lot of my videos are really dark and edgy and tough. Rude Boy is more playing along the lines from my roots.

'We used a lot of color, but also the costumes were very Jamaican dancehall queen type.'

Dancehall queens being women who wear outrageously skimpy clothing to attend clubs in the West Indies, often competing in dance offs to be crowned queen of the dancehall.

Rude Boy is taken from Rihanna's fourth studio album, Rated R and the video is directed by Melina Matsoukas who also directed the video for Rihanna's last single Hard. It is scheduled to be premiered on February 11.

Rihanna is reported to be returning to the studio very soon to make new music.

She reportedly will be joined by dance music hitmaker David Guetta, although it is unclear whether the new material is being recorded for her upcoming album or the planned re-release Rated R.

Meanwhile, the R&B star narrowly avoided serious injury over the weekend when a brawl broke out at a post Super Bowl party she was attending.

According to reports a the trouble broke out at around 5am, a few hours after New Orleans Saints' victory over Indianapolis Colts in Miami.

Far East trip: The R&B singer heads to a nail salon in Daikanyama, Tokyo just two days after performing in Miami

Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Timbaland were all sitting at the same table in Miami's Liv club when five magnums of Laurent Perrier Rose were thrown from the balcony above them, one whistling past the Umbrella star's left arm before smashing to the floor.

Someone from Rihanna's table allegedly hurled a bottle back, prompting the party above to send an even bigger jeroboam bottle hurtling down.

Despite almost causing Rihanna serious injury, the yobs were shouting "Touchdown" every time a bottle landed.

According to witnesses Rihanna was screaming as American footballer-sized bouncers waded in to catch the troublemakers, before the club's DJ announced the night had come to an abrupt end.

Just two days after the Super Bowl concert and a performance on behalf of the
SOS: Help For Haiti telethon, the singer was pictured in Tokyo.

Wrapping up against the cold, she sported a leopard print fur coat on a visit to a nail salon in the city's Daikanyama district.
