A quick change for Paris Hilton as she shakes off her jetlag for an appearance on the David Letterman Show in New York

Sparkling: Paris Hilton made a quick change into a glittery one-shoulder dress for her appearance on the David Letterman Show in New York City

It was a quick change, but a very dramatic one for Paris Hilton yesterday as she went from her everyday wear to ultra-glam in just a few short hours.

The infamous socialite was pictured ahead of her appearance on the David Letterman Show in New York in a tracksuit top, T-shirt and jeans.

But just a few hours later she'd transformed into a glamour queen wearing a sparkling, one-shoulder blue dress and high heels, with a hair style fit for the red carpet.

Paris covered her eyes with a pair of huge shades in her casual getup, as she was still suffering from jetlag having just arrived in New York off a flight from Los Angeles.

The star posted twice on her Twitter page to explain to followers on the micro-blogging site that she had not slept on the flight, which can take up to six hours.

She said: 'Just landed in to NY. So exhausted, didn't sleep a wink on the plane. Can't wait to get in bed and rest for a few hours.'

And later tweeted: 'On my way over to David Letterman for rehearsal for tonight's show. I am so jetlagged and tired.'

But despite being exhausted by the flight, Paris still managed to find the energy to put in a glittering display for her appearance.

Before jetting off to NYC to shoot the Letterman interview, and a TV commercial, Paris went shopping in Hollywood.

And she brought along one of her pet dogs, Marilyn Monroe.

Before she indulged in some retail therapy, she was pictured having lunch with her sister Nicky at Mauro's Cafe inside Fred Segal on Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Paris had been the victim of a group of teen burlgars after she left the front door key to her home under a mat.

Nick Prugo, part of so-called 'Bling Ring gang', said the 29-year-old heiress was their first target because they considered her 'dumb'.

Other victims of the gang included British actor Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan, actress Rachel Bilson and reality star Audrina Partridge.
