Surely a hairbrush and a clean t-shirt wouldn't have gone amiss, Britney?

The singer was snapped heading into a recording studio in Los Angeles yesterday looking a bit bedraggled.

Her hair was tangled and messy and her black make-up was smudged around her eyes

The 28-year-old pop star also wore a pink vest top that had a stain down the front and struggled to contain her bra strap.

And she looked like she'd put on a few pounds, judging by her slightly protruding midriff, and didn't look at all happy to have been caught on camera.

Britney has kept a fairly low profile over the past couple of weeks, but the last time she was spotted out and about, her attire left a lot to be desired then.

Sporting knee-high socks. tiny shorts and very unkempt hair, she started screaming at the waiting cameras as she stopped at Starbucks to get a frozen coffee.

And yesterday she emerged again looking a mess as she went to lay down some eagerly-awaited tracks.

A few days ago, her career was given a much-needed boost after it was announced that the cast of Glee will pay homage to her in an upcoming episode.

Off the back of the success of the show's Lady Gaga and Madonna-inspired episodes, series creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed there will be one that focuses round Britney's biggest hits.

The Womanizer singer has previously expressed her love of the show after she Tweeted last month: 'I love Glee, the cast is so talented.'

But if she was hoping for a cameo in the show she'll be out of luck after Murphy confirmed yesterday that she will not be making an appearance.

And as Britney prepared to head back into the studio, her two sons Sean Preston, 4 and Jayden James, 3, enjoyed some quality time with their father, Britney's ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Federline, 32, appeared to have gained a lot of weight, despite a recent stint on reality TV show Celebrity Fit Club where the back-up dancer managed to drop over two stone

He said: 'We're doing an episode about Britney Spears, but she's not on the show.'
