Chart flop: Christina Aguilera holds hands with her huband Jordan Bratman - she'll need his support after hearing the bad news
She has dressed in spandex bondage costumes, admitted she’s bisexual and been labelled a ‘copy-cat’ of Lady Gaga. But all that still hasn’t helped Christina Aguilera’s record sales.
Christina's worst fears have been realised as her new album Bionic has suffered the biggest single-week drop in UK chart history.
Bionic plummeted to No29 in the charts after debuting at No1 when released last week.
But it has only sold 24,000 units – the lowest sales figure for a No1 album in eight years.
Despite her attempts at generating international publicity, such as a nude photo shoot on the cover of German GQ magazine, Christina's album sales have tailed off dramatically.
Chart dropper: Christina's album cover for Bionic
Now a wife to husband Jordan Bratman, and a mother to son Max, two, the 29-year-old's drop in the charts comes following four years away from the pop scene.
And the news of her album's poor performance comes soon after she announced that her American tour will be postponed to next year.
She originally said she postponed the live dates, which were due to start in July, because she wanted more time to prepare the show.
‘I knew we wouldn’t have the time to do it so the biggest, better Bionic tour will be next year, when we have time to do it’, she said.
But now the delayed tour has intensified speculation over her failure to grab the audience she once had before taking a four-year break.
NBA fan: Christina Aguilera tries to stay in the public eye by attending an NBA basketball game
Since her time out from music female performers; Rihanna, Beyonce and Miley Cyrus, have dominated the pop world that Christina once ruled.
And in particular Lady Gaga has stolen the formerly known Xtina's position as pop's most outrageous performer, while Christina and former rival Britney's careers are both struggling.
Her last album ‘Back to Basics’ debuted at No1 in 2006 with 346,000 units sold and ‘Stripped’ went to No.2 in 2002 and kicked off with 330,470 units sold.
Meanwhile, despite the singer’s dismal figures, one thing that is not in doubt is her talent.
Last week she put in a stunning performance at the NBA finals in Los Angeles last week.
In front of a star studded audience, including Michelle Obama, Snoop Dogg and Sean Combs, Aguilera gave a rousing performance of the national anthem.
